LMC bans Ifeanyi Ubah for assaulting player

 

The League Management Company on Thursday placed a 10-match ban on the proprietor of FC IfeanyiUbah, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, for assaulting Heartland goalkeeper, Ebere Obi, after their Week 8 league match, which IfeanyiUbah won 1-0.

The league body in an earlier statement only reprimanded Ubah for fuelling the crowd disturbance that happened after the match. But in a later decision, which the LMC said was taken after the examination of video evidence from the match, Ubah was banned and fined the sum of N2.5m.

The body however allowed the oil magnate a 48-hour grace to appeal the decision.

The LMC wrote on Twitter on Thursday, “In the light of new video evidence emerging from the FC Ifeanyiubah v Heartland match, a review of sanctions meted out earlier will be done.

“Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, proprietor of FC IfeanyiUbah, is suspended from all #NPFL match venues for the next 10 matches. He has now been fined N2.5m because LMC found him guilty of encroaching field of play & assaulting Heartland player Ebere Obi.

“The fabled billionaire is expected to offer a letter of apology & an undertaking to be a good ambassador of the #NPFL. The LMC further bans all self-procured security services other than those sanctioned by the LMC from all #NPFL match venues henceforth.

“Four of the 10-match #NPFL ban is suspended for a probationary period till the end of the season. Ubah has up till 5pm on Saturday to appeal this decision if he objects the ruling.”

The LMC also sanctioned FC IfeanyiUbah for their failure to control their fans during the match.

LMC stated, “FC IfeanyiUbah was charged for the encroachment of their supporters on the technical area immediately after the match against Heartland. The club was also charged for failure to ensure adequate security, crowd control and access to unauthorised persons to restricted areas.

“FC IfeanyiUbah was accordingly fined N500, 000 on each of the two breaches and allowed 48 hours to appeal the ruling in writing to appear before a commission or submit to the decision of the LMC.”
