Kogi Governor signs N99.9bn budget into law

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has signed the state's 2016 appropriation bill of N99.9 billion into law.

The budget, which was signed by the Governor in Lokoja on Monday, May 9, comprised N41.71 billion as capital and N58.228 billion as recurrent expenditure.
Bello described the bill as a budget of change and promised its full implementation.
He said a monitoring committee will be set up to coordinate and monitor the full implementation of the budget.
In view of the drop in the allocation from the Federation Account, the Governor  said that the state Internal Revenue Service has been directed to embark on aggressive revenue collection to address the shortfall.
Bello promised to be fairness and transparency in the management of the state’s inadequate resources.
He commended the state House of Assembly for ensuring the speedy passage of the budget in spite of unnecessary distractions.
The Speaker of the house, Ahaji Ahmed Umar who was represented at the signing ceremony, described the event as the beginning of a new direction towards alleviating the suffering of the people.
