Teenager hacked to death after football match quarrel

Tragedy struck on Wednesday when a group of boys were involved in a free for all at the Palm Church Junction on Lagos Island which lead to the hacking to death of a teenage football fan.
Reports say the incident occurred after a football match at the Campos Stadium when a fight broke out between two factions believed to be cult groups leading to the killing of the victim identified only as Gulf 2.
Men from the Adeniji Adele Police Division later stormed the area to restore sanity forcing the waring factions to disperse at the sight of security operatives with the corpse of the victim reportedly deposited in the mortuary.
According to a resident of the area who witnessed the incident, the free-for-all fight between the two groups was caused by a few bottles of drinks shared by the boys when the football match ended.
“There was a competition at the stadium. The football matches were usually played between 1am and 4am. The stadium was lighted because of the match. Policemen were usually outside. The fight started after a match on Wednesday.” The resident who pleaded anonymity informed.

Continuing, he said; “Some teenagers were drinking and the fans of the other team came to their side and poured their drinks away. I do not know who won the match. So, the two groups started fighting. Gulf 2 and some other boys were pursued to Aroloya Street.
“They hurled stones at their victims and the boy fell. That was how they hacked him to death. We put a distress call to the Adeniji Adele Divisional Police Officer, who came around with his men, but the teenagers ran away when they saw police vans.
“The clash engulfed Palm Church, Itafaji and Aroloya streets. Till now, we cannot identify the boy; we do not know his address. When they heard the policemen shooting, all of them took to their heels.”
Efforts are now underway to arrest the hoodlums according to DSP Dolapo Oni, The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer.
“Information was received that some miscreants engaged one another in a supremacy fight in the area.
“Police patrol teams went to the area, but the hoodlums took to their heels. The corpse of one of them was recovered.
“The victim’s name and address are still unknown. The corpse has been removed and deposited at the Lagos Island General Hospital’s morgue for an autopsy. Meanwhile, effort is on to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.” She said.
