Newly appointed Prisons Boss, Ahmed In age falsification scandal
Mr. Ja’afaru Ahmed, the newly appointed Comptroller-General (CG)
Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), has been accused of age falsification.
President Muhammadu Buhari in May, appointed Mr. Ahmed, an Assistant
Comptroller-General of the NPS headquarters in Abuja, to succeed Dr.
Peter Ekpendu, but an online media, SaharaReporters, claims it has in
its possession, fabricated age documents of Mr. Ahmed.
According to the source, NPS documents which are in its possession,
reveals that Mr. Ahmed joined the service on November 30, 1985, at the
age of 28 and was posted to the administrative unit at the NPS
headquarters.
It said the documents provided Mr. Ahmed’s date of birth when he
joined the service as being born on July 21, 1957 and that the date of
birth was untampered until 2015 when Mr. Ahmed deducted two years off
his age to have his age of birth now read July 21, 1959.
It also claimed that the NPS documents listing members of the top
rank of the service in 2015 vividly indicated Mr. Ahmed, a native of
Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as ranking sixth position
from the top officers.
“The documents, however, showed a different date of birth to what he
claimed at the time he enlisted in the service,” said the source.
The source also claimed that the age falsification was known to
retired General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazzau, the Minister of the
Interior, so that he could become the GG of the NPS before retirement.
