Rivers: DSS arrests herdsman for allegedly killing butcher

Operatives of the Department of State
Services have arrested a herdsman identified as Saidu Buba, for
allegedly killing a butcher known as Mr. Bright Iruanya.
Iruanya was said to have been shot by Buba at close range on May 30, 2016 in Abam, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the family of the
deceased had reported the incident to security agencies before the
suspect was apprehended.
Though no reason has been given for
Buba’s action, operatives of the DSS were able to arrest and arraign him
before the Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt on Friday.
The suspect was arraigned on two counts that bordered on murder and conspiracy to commit felony.
In the Charge Suit Number PMC/1292C/16,
Buba was said to have conspired with others currently at large to commit
felony in the alleged murder of Iruanya.
The charge against the suspect read,
“That you, Saidu Buba, adult with others at large on or about the 30th
of May, 2016, at Abam, Okrika LGA, within the jurisdiction of this
court, did conspire to commit felony to wit: murder of Bright Iruanya
and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 526 of the Command
Code Law, of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
“That you, Saidu Buba, adult with others
at large on or about the 30th of May, 2016, at Abam, Okrika LGA, within
the jurisdiction of this court, did murder Bright Iruanya, by shooting
him to death with a gun and thereby committed an offence contrary to
Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law,
Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.”
However, the Chief Magistrate, S.D. Andrew-Jaja, directed that the suspect be remanded in prison custody.
Andrew-Jaja, who directed that the case
file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal
advice, adjourned the matter till September 29, 2016 for mention.
