BEN EDENSETING: THE UDUNG UKO RENAISSANCE MAN (PART FOUR)

By Joshua Osung

Analysis of blueprints (continued) “No great man lives in vain; the history of the world is the biography of great men
-Thomas Carlyle

The afore-quoted verse may be an ordinary axiom to some people, but for others, it is a propeller.

One of those who live by that philosophy is Engr. Ben Edenseting. This is a man who wants the history of Udung Uko’s
imminent greatness to be synonymous with his name.

His readiness to sacrifice his all ideologically and otherwise to push Udung Uko to its desired destination is second to
none.

He is very much aware that the consciousness of today’s world is one way of being acclimatized to it.

This forms the basis for his proposition of: ICT CENTERS IN ALL THE 10 WARDS OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do.

It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive.

It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential- Steve Ballmer
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) whose components include: cloud computing, software, hardware, internet access, transactions, data, and communication technology is the infrastructure and component that
enables modern computing.

There is no single universal definition of ICT, the term is generally accepted to mean all devices, networking components, applications and systems that combined allow people and organizations to interact in the digital world.

The good people of Udung Uko must be aware that more commonly, ICT is very effective educationally, that is to say through ICT, students can learn with ease.

Teachers and students no longer have to rely solely on printed books and other materials in physical media houses or
libraries (which unfortunately are available in limited quantities)for their educational needs.

Another defining feature of ICT which the good people (especially students)
of Udung Uko stand a chance to gain is transience between time and space.

Here, asynchronous learning will this way be made possible. With the internet and the World Wide Web, a wealth of learning materials in virtually every subject can be accessed from anywhere at
any time of the day and by an unlimited number of people.

Other (call it general) benefit of ICT includes:
• Increase of communication channels through Emails, discussion groups and chat rooms.

• Greater efficiency throughout the school for secondary and tertiary students.

• Greater flexibility in when and where tasks are carried out.

• Our youths will now come to the world’s consciousness and compete with other youths outside our clime in terms of information technology.

• This will bring employment opportunities and training to youths and as well help them to attain the self-employed status after training.

Fellow citizens of Udung Uko, what more do we ask for? This is indeed going to be a facelift for our dear Local Government Area.

This will help reshape our mentality and mannerism from ruralism. Standing by Dean Kamen’s assertion, “every once in a while, a new technology, an old problem, and a big idea turn into an innovation… we are not too blind to see… this is truly
getting innovative; an aiding response to our ernest need.

We must know that in our pinning and uttermost desire for a New Udung Uko, ICT is one of the pushes we will need to achieve our desired goal.

Let us therefore reshape our focus towards A GLOBAL AND DIGITALIZED UDUNG UKO, while continually thinking to the direction and philosophy of Engr. Ben Edenseting!

God bless Udung Uko!
