I BEAR THE PLIGHT OF A WOMAN EPISODE 5

By Bassey Ekpaha Silver

The Chief Judge walked into the court and everyone stood in acknowledgment.

Already the court was filled up when
she arrived.

It appeared as if all the cases read were
murder cases, but the most interesting one was that in which the son killed the Father for not giving him pocket
money.

The accused was about thirty-five years old. so she decided to start there.

The name of the accused' s father sounded very familiar to her. when he was called to claim the dock, she observed with curiosity. " why did you killed your father?" the persecuting counsel asked.

The accused stared at the judge with so much curiosity too like one trying to figure out a lost relative.

At that point, the judge excused the counsel and asked "who are you? And where do you say you from again? " I am Usen , son of Chief Itoh from Ekondo. " he replied." What! Are you the son of Chief Itoh? " the Chief Judge asked.

It was at that point that the boy remembered where he knew the judge from.

She is Idoreyin, daughter of the late Attah and Nko." Anyway that we are distant relatives doesn't mean anything. Justice must prevail!" Idoreyin concluded and continued listening to the case.

Chief Itoh's children were nothing to write about, three were already in prison awaiting different trials.

Now, the one standing in for murder is the first son. For more than five years of Idoreyin's practice as a judge, she has
sent more than ten indigenes of Ekondo to several jail terms, and it's mostly males. Sometimes she would be feeling guilty wondering if she wasn't taking vengeance.

"Lord, please forgive me. I am only doing what I swore to" she prayed. Nko's children were the most successful
in Ekondo.

In fact, mothers who had no female children started regretting.

They wish they could turn back the
hands of time. One thing stood out after the dead of their father: THEY HAD STOPPED LIVING THE LIFE OF
PLEASING PEOPLE AND DEPENDING ON WHAT
THE SOCIETY SAID OR WANTED.

Ndatiukut became the first surgeon in Ekondo. MY CHILDREN, YOU
HAVE PROVEN TO THE WORLD THAT FEMALE CHILDREN TOO CAN BE GREAT ACHIEVERS.

I WISH YOU FATHER WAS ALIVE TO SEE THIS GLORY... GOD BLESS YOU! THOSE WERE NKO'S LAST WORDS AS SHE BOWS HER HEAD TO DEAD.

SHE WAS NINETY YEARS OLD WHEN SHE DEAD.

NDATIUKUT CLOSED HER EYES AS THE ONLY MALE CHILD SHE HAD
