247 Retirees Receive Gratuities from Akwa Ibom State Government

As part of her commitment to the welfare of retired workers, Akwa Ibom State Government has cemented plans for the payment of gratuities to some categories of retirees who were left out in previous interventions.

A Statement signed by the State Accountant General, Pastor Uwem Andrew invites a total of 247 beneficiaries, drawn from Abak, Eket, Etim Ekpo, Etinan, and Ibesikpo Asutan, local government areas.

Others also expected to smile to the bank are listed under Ikono, Oron, Ukanafun, Uruan, and Uyo Sub-treasuries and have been invited to receive their cheques.

The release titled ‘Gratuity Payment,’ directs thus, “the following beneficiaries of gratuity whose numbers appear below should come to the Accountant General’s office for their payment.”

It further directed all beneficiaries to appear for their cheques with two passport photographs, Pension Identification Card, Letters of Employment, Promotion and retirement from service, and a white/blue paper.

Meanwhile, a careful study of the release shows that 27 beneficiaries are from Abak Sub-treasury, 17 from Eket, 5 from Etim Ekpo, with 4 beneficiaries from Etinan and Ibesikpo Asutan.

Similarly, Ikono, Oron Sub-treasuries have 4 beneficiaries, with 5 from Ukanafun, 3 from Uruan, while Uyo has 106 beneficiaries.

It would be recalled that the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Nsikan Linus Nkan had last week acknowledged the receipt of the second tranche N10bn
Paris Debt Refund, explaining that more outstanding pension and gratuity issues, among others will be sorted with the money.
