N’Delta Avengers deny ’30-day ceasefire’ with govt
Niger Delta Avengers
Niger Delta Avengers have denied wide-spread reports that it was
party to a 30-day cease fire agreement said to have been consummated
with government.
The group is demanding, among others, that the Nigerian government
concede to the people of the Niger Delta absolute control of oil
resources located in the region.
“The NDA High Command never remember having any agreement on
ceasefire with the Nigeria Government,” said the group on its Twitter
feed on Tuesday.
The militant group has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks
on oil installations that have seen the country’s oil output decline
from 2.2million barrels per day (bpd) to about 1.5 bpd.
An unconfirmed government source reportedly told journalists on Tuesday in Yenagoa that militants operating in the Niger Delta had reached an understanding with government for a 30-day cease-fire.
The Niger Delta Avengers have consistently said that they were not
willing to enter into any form of dialogue with the Buhari-led
administration.
There are very strong speculations that the group is tacitly
receiving support from Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, who once,
was a government contractor, but now declared wanted for alleged fraud
running into several billions.
