Okagbare wins Madrid Women’s 100m race
While her teammates were battling to win medals at the on-going
African Senior Athletics Championship in Durban, South Africa, Nigeria
100m champion Blessing Okagbare emerged victorious by winning the 100m
gold at the 1AAF World Challenge in Madrid on Thursday night with a
season’s best of 11.09 seconds.
Okagbare was expected to race in South Africa to defend her title, but opted to compete at the World Challenge in Madrid.
As the race in Madrid was going on, Okagbare’s African 100m women’s
record of 11,00 seconds was broken by Cote d’Ivoire’s Murielle Ahouré
who clinched the continental title with a time of 10.99 seconds.
She however took solace in the Madrid race with Ecuador’s sprinter,
Angela Tenorio coming second with 11.13 seconds, while Lorene Dorcas
Bazolo of Portugal came third with 11.28 seconds.
