‘Many Lagos teachers don’t have email addresses’
The Lead Consultant, Perth Pacific
Educational Consult, Prof. Oak Noah, has said that many teachers in
Lagos public schools do not have email addresses and cannot handle
advanced computer programmes.
Noah said this on Wednesday at a training organised by the Teachers’ Establishment and Pensions Office for teachers in Lagos.
The educationist, who served as a
resource person for the training, said, “We have teachers here who
cannot sufficiently handle the use of English at an advanced level.
Nobody scored an A in the entry test we conducted and this was a test
for SS2 pupils in England and Australia.
“I have here teachers, who in the 21st
century, do not have email addresses. Having an active email addresses
will enable government officials to send them birthday messages. It will
motivate them and show their family members that their employers love
them. There is the need to organise a new form of training where they
can learn advanced computer handling techniques and learn how to
register online for trainings.”
The Permanent Secretary, TEPO, Mrs.
Sewanu Amosu, in her remarks, urged the participants to invest in
self-development and to let their lifestyles inspire their pupils.
“I see great minds in you and I know
you can do better. Consider this an opportunity to assimilate and learn
as much as possible. For those, who do not have email addresses, we will
create one of you right here. You must be ICT compliant and in fact,
we are creating a corridor where you can come in for e-learning. Do not
wait for government to train you.
“The governor has said that written
examination will not be used for promotion but we shall consider other
factors. So, you should teach your pupils dignity of labour and honesty.
Let your lifestyles inspire your pupils.”
