Lecturers Commence indefinite strike

Academic staff at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun state, have reportedly gone on an indefinite strike.

According to reports by Punch, Academic Staff Union of Universities ordered its members to commence indefinite sit-at-home action.

The decision was made due to the state government's inability to honour a Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the union in December 2015.

This decision was announced on Monday, August 8, by ASUU at the end of its congress, held at the institution’s permanent campus in Ago-Iwoye.

The union disclosed that this decision was made following the inability of the university management to pay their July salaries, among other issues.

Speaking for the union, chairman of the OOU chapter, Dr Deji Agboola, said the state government had abdicated its responsibility to the institution by failing to honour the 70:30 ratio contributions by government and OOU in salary payment.
