By John Ntekim - UYO
Earlier today, a delegation led by Mr. Augustine Oscar of World Skills International visited the Managing Director of Master's Touch Community Development Company and Principal of GoodOmen2019 in his Uyo office.
The cheerful visit which featured the investiture of Barr. Omen Bassey as World Skills International Star
Ambassador, had the legal counsel and businessman decorated with a medal of honor and a certificate as an ambassador of World Youth Skills International.
Addressing the gathering, a representative of Tellence Nigeria Resources, Mr. Charles Effiong expressed a sense of astonishment at Barr. Bassey's passion and zeal in developing skills as a panacea for sustainable growth for
humanity in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large, through activities of Master's Touch Community Development Company.
On behalf of Tellence NG Resources, Mr. Effiong presented an invitation to Barr. Omen Bassey, who is also the Convener of Oro Nation Leadership and Business
Roundtable to present a public lecture at a proposed Tellence NG Skills and Youth Development Conference, 2017.
However, decorating Barr. Bassey with a medal of honor and a certificate as a Star Ambassador of World Skills
International, a nongovernmental organisation based in Netherlands, Mr. Augustine Oscar described Omen Bassey as a meticulous humanitarian, stressing that the honor is in recognition of his outstanding contributions to skills development and empowerment.
Responding during an interactive session which eventually ensued, Barr. Omen Bassey who heartily appreciated the
privileged honor done him, spoke extensively on the essence of skills development, narrating challenges facing
skill acquisition at rural areas and identifying possible modalities though which such challenges could be averted.
"Going by what is happening in Nigeria as regards skill enhancement, I can tell you that we have lost it.
The development of our education shifted ever since from skill acquisition to ordinary paper degrees.
"Our people are disinterested in what you can do, but more interested in if you have a 2.1 or you have a Ph.D.
"This defines why I am passionate about skills development, because if we have a nation that is rich in skills, then we would have a nation with a very formidable economy", Barr. Bassey emphasised.
Others on the delegation were Mr. Daniel Henry of the African Institute for Skills Development, Abuja and an
Akwa Ibom based businessman, Mr. Inam Kingsley, while Mr. Augustine Oscar represented the Country
Representative of World Skills International, Mrs. Yemsi Akimulade.
Also, the enlightening session was witnessed by Mrs. Esther Atane Osas and Miss Mfon Owonam as staff of
Master's Touch Community Development Company, Director of Research and Strategy, GoodOmen2019, Mr. Michael Uyeh Akadakhaene , as well as Comr. ThankGod Williams of Akwa Ibom State University and the Publicity Secretary of Oro Nation Leadership and Business Roundtable, John Ntekim
