BOOK OF PSALMS part 1
We shall spend a fair amount of time looking into this great book in the bible. The book of Psalms is the largest book in the entire bible.
It was written approximately BC1440 to BC586. It contains some of the most beautiful poetry ever written.
It is mainly created songs that run the gamut of human emotions.
The Hebrew meaning of Psalms translates to Praises.
King David wrote 73 of the 150 Psalms in the bible while some were written thousands of years after his death.
The most effective rendition (save Songs of Solomon) uttered by king David whereby trepidations and conflicts of human emotions are narratively expounded is found in the book of Psalms.
The book of Psalms expresses our innermost feeling, fear, hopes and
aspirations. Indeed, it covers timeless themes which makes it as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.
The dominant theme is,Trusting in God, Praising God and Rejoicing in God.
Another important theme that spans through the entire book of Psalms is Mercy, as we see David plead severally for Gods forgiveness through the book.
The book of Psalms is so important that many have used it to voice their prayers in hours of extreme anguish simply by repeating familiar passages thus
embossing the essence of liturgy.
It is assuring to note that many have turned to the book of Psalms in their
hour of deep despair and adversity.
Countless have found comfort, consolation and the words to pray/praise God in their darkest hours.
In subsequent lessons we shall look at
certain specific Psalms that every believer must take cognisance of.
The book of Psalms speaks to us and for
us. It is also interesting to note that many have prayed the words of Psalms and find them to be the best expression of their souls' desire.
The book of Psalms offers practical guidelines to a stimulating prayer life. May I ask you to please pray that every believer will imbibe the book of Psalms in their daily life.
Pray that the thirst for this great book in the bible will be generated in their
hearts. '
TEACH ME, O LORD, THE WAY OF THY STATUTES; AND I SHALL KEEP IT UNTO THE END' Psalms 119:33. God bless you all.
