BOOK OF PSALMS part 2
we look further into this beautiful collection of inspired book from God.
Bear in mind that the book of Psalms is
a collection of different authors.
Because of the poetic nature of the writings, various poetic devises such as
similes, metaphors, imagery, personification and hyperbole
are utilised in this writing.
In order to gain adequate insight into this book, it is expedient to take cognisance of
these various poetic devices.
The first thing to note is that the book of Psalms embodies the Pentateuch.
Consequently, it is divided into five major divisions. The first division spans Psalms 1-41, and like the book of Genesis, it is focused on Blessings, Redemption and Faith.
The other four divisions are detailed in our soon to be published book.
The book of Psalms is sometimes referred
to as the epitome of Israel's spiritual existence.
Why, One may ask. Well, the study of Israel's existence presents an archetype of every believer's journey through
life. Indeed, the study of Israel's existence encompass the questions and answers to man's relationship with God.
The book of Psalms provides a pattern for participation in Prayer, Praise and Worship. Jesus Christ loved and
referred to the book of Psalms during His walk on earth.
On the cross, in His last moments, He quoted Psalm 31:5 'Unto thine hand I commit my spirit...' A remarkable fulfilment of several years of written
prophesies.
The Psalms is also a great reference to use in times of challenges.
Many have turned to the use of
Psalms when they are suffering and at moments when God seem strangely absent.
Yet, He is ever so near and a very present help in times of need. As a child of God, it is incumbent upon you to memorise certain vital Psalms in the bible.
We shall deal with these Psalms in due course.
Understand that at certain moments in your life, when challenges crops up unexpectedly, you must resort immediately to the word of God.
Only the word of God can release paralysing antidote against the deadly venom of the enemy's attack.
This is where the book of Psalms
comes in handy.
Your ability to release the 'Word' on
precision and at decisive moments depends upon what you have stored up within you and forms the consequent
determining factor of your victory.
Psalms provides effective means of storing/accessing the word of God
within you.
In the next lesson, we shall deal with specific Psalms that serves as useful tools for the believer.
We were created to worship and to praise God. We shall look first at the Psalms that offer great exultation and praise.
May I ask you to please pray that the children of God will thirst after His word.
Pray that praises of His Holy name will continually flow from their lips. '
I WILL PRAISE THEE, O LORD, WITH MY WHOLE HEART;
I WILL SHOW FORTH ALL THY MARVELLOUS WORKS' Psalm9:1. God bless you all.
