Irregularities allegations rock PDP in Ikot Ekpene as stakeholders demand cancellation of Chairmanship Primary

By Anietie Esu

Stakeholders and Statutory delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area have rejected in totality the purported Primary election for the Chairmanship flag bearer of the PDP in the area in the forthcoming local government election in Akwa Ibom State.

Addressing newsmen in Uyo, the stakeholders said some individuals in the area are plotting to impose a Chairmanship candidate on the people of Ikot Ekpene.

The stakeholders said they were surprised to hear announcement of a different list of delegates for the purported election on the AKBC radio earlier today instead of the duly elected delegates elected across all the wards in the area during the party's Congress on September 16, 2017.

They described the radio announcement as a complete disrespect to the PDP's mandate as duly elected ad hoc delegates for the Chairmanship primary were disenfranchised from participating in the exercise.

"We the undersigned stakeholders, Chairmanship Aspirants and the Statutory Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ikot Ekpene, therefore reject in totality the purported election of today 18th September, 2017 held at the Uyo Sports Stadium and call for the cancellation, to allow for a fair and due process to be followed to safeguard the winning of the forthcoming election in Ikot Ekpene", the stakeholders stated.

The protesting stakeholders were Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, Engr. Etido Inyang, Engr. Samuel Inyang and Rt.Hon. Nsikak Ekong as well as Otuekong Ukut, among others.
