Dr. MRS AKON EYAKENYI JP, PHF AND RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP IN FOCUS

Dr. (Mrs.) Akon Eyakenyi , is a great Akwa Ibom daughter of Oron extraction. She is dutiful and faithful, a mother of 5 Godly children, a home maker, a foremost educationist, a consummate administrator and a great politician.

This unassuming woman of candour, character, wit and intelligence was born almost six decades ago into the royal family of Chief and Mrs. Uweh Isangedihi (both of blessed memory) of Mbokpu-Eyokan Community in Urue-Offong)/Oruko Local Government Area. However, she is now an indigene of Iquita village in Oron Local Government Area, having been married to a stateman, Elder Etim Eyakenyi, some 39 years ago.
Mma's exposure to politics came early in life, when as a young girl, she was saddled with the responsibility of serving politicians during meetings convened at the instance of her Late Uncle and a ranking Second Republic Parliamentarian, Comrade Edet Bassey Etienam, of the Federal House of Representatives, Lagos. Her political mentorship/tetulage continued until the Third Republic, under the keen watch of her eldest brother, Engr. Isangedihi (late), who at the time contested for the Chairmanship Seat of the then Oron Local Government Area.

And, having done with being a protégé, she was in 1991 appointed by the Executive Chairman of the old Oron Local Government Area, Chief Antigha Eyo Bassey (of blessed memory), to serve as Supervisor for Education, Youths, Sports and Culture, where she served alongside the likes of the famous, Pastor Oyong Etim Asukwo (late), who was in-charge of Finance and Appropriation.

As one who is meticulous and imbued with character, competence and capacity, the story of her political journey has ever since been that of a rising profile.

In the words of a famous English Novelist, James Hadley Chase (1975), a "goldfish have no hiding place". Little wonder that, Dr. (Mrs) Eyakenyi, was soon after leaving office as the Hon. Federal Minister, appointed by His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel , as Chairman, Governing Council of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
And, as one with her vast wealth of experience Particularly in the management of human and financial resources, she has within the period of her stay in office brought life into a somewhat moribund institution by securing the approval of the Governor for the employment of 100 members of staff to boost the academic life and by extension, the productivity of the institution, while, also reducing the menace of unemployment; facilitated the construction and furnishing of an Ultra-Modern Library Project with supply of equipments, being a REFUND Project, amongst others.

Dr. (Mrs.) Eyakenyi, is by all standard, a household name in Akwa Ibom Politics and cannot therefore, be forgotten in a hurry. Not when she left indelible imprints in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, where she served as Commissioner (2000- 2005).

In all honesty, she was and remains the brain-box of the administration of His Excellency, Obong Victor Attah, having initiated the idea for the construction of, Le Meridien Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, as well as the revamping of the comatose, Champion Breweries, amongst others.

Dr. (Mrs.) Eyakenyi, is a faithful servant and has served the State creditably in the following capacity:
*Board Member 1, Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board (1999-2000).

*Board Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Technical School Board (2013).
*Member, Technical Committee on the Realization of Ibaka Deep Seaport (2015).

And, in all of these appointments, it was her diligence, competence, capacity that kept her going.

And, because the reward for hard work is more work, I therefore ask that you accept this clarion call to higher service, to speak for and on behalf of the good people of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly, effective May, 2019.

I make this solemn declaration in my conscious state fully mindful of the fact that as a former Hon. Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development and Political Leader of Oron Local Government, that you have the political clout, experience and lobbying power to end our years of under-representation in the Nigerian Senate.

And, why should we support, Dr. (Mrs.) Akon Eyakenyi, for Senate 2019?

Her passion and determination to always make her people enjoy the democratic dividends is unquestionable. No wonder that within the 14 months of her stay in office as a Federal Minister, that she secured the Federal Government's approval for the Development of 10,000 Housing Units to meet the housing need of Nigerians and in support of Housing Provision under the Nigerian Mortgage Re-Finance Scheme (NMRC). This is in addition to the Completion and Commissioning of 3500 abandoned Housing Projects scattered across the Federation.

If she could do all of these as an appointee of Government, then she will definitely do more as a Senator of the Federal Republic.
Support this woman of immeasurable virtue.

Support she that is imbued with character, competence and capacity.
Support she that will give the much needed effective, focused and purposeful representation.
