THE ENEMY AS A TOOL IN THE HANDS OF GOD

In this lesson, we shall look at the ways that God expects us to treat our enemies. The first thing to note is that the presence of the enemy in any one's life is a very unpleasant and harrowing experience. It often takes the form of betrayal, disappointment, wickedness and torment that is very hard to endure.

The enemy can sometimes carry you to the threshold of pain that will shake the foundation of your faith. However, one thing you must always remember is that there is light at the end of the tunnel. 'There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able: but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it' 1Cor10:13.

Know that when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death and even in your darkest moments, He is always with you and He will turn things around for good for you. Let us now consider the ways that God commands you to treat your enemy. First, God is love, as such, He calls on you to love your enemy, you are to do good to your enemy, bless and also pray for your enemy.

If your enemy is hungry, you are to give him bread to eat and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. There is no doubt that the human nature will struggle to exhibit such grandeur and extravagant display of love.

However, your act of obedience must supersede any resistant emotion within you. Jesus Christ laid down a great foundation for us when dying on the cross, he forgave and prayed for His enemies. He Displayed a perfect character under adverse circumstances.

'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do' Luke23:34. Jesus Christ also revealed His nature to us by the various actions of love that He displayed. There is no telling what avalanche of wrath was averted on the day of crucifixion by His act of mercy and love. The bible further teaches that you are not to rejoice when your enemy falls. I often wonder how many believers can adhere to this challenging command.

In order to effectively achieve this, you must allow God to work and to rule in your heart. It is only with the help of the Holy Spirit that this kind of love is actualised. One thing is clear, God will use the enemy to work in your favour, but you must walk in obedience to God and give Him the leeway to work fully in your life. 'DEARLY BELOVED,  AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES, BUT RATHER GIVE PLACE UNTO WRATH: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY, SAITH THE LORD' Rom12:19.

God bless you all.
