PDP accuses EFCC boss Magu of receiving $115m, car bribe

 

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, this on Wednesday on its twitter handle alleged that the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu received over $115 million and a car as bribe through a close associate.

The party said that Department of State Security (DSS), is already investigating the matter.

This allegation is coming as some section of the Nigerian media reported on Monday that the State Security Service, SSS, had arrested a member of the Presidential Investigative Committee on Arms Procurement, Umar Muhammed, a retired Air Commodore, for alleged fraudulent deals involving top government officials.

  

A newspaper, quoting a “reliable source,” alleged that Mr. Muhammed was fronting for some high ranking officials within the EFCC and security agencies to carry out unwholesome activities.

At the end of their five-hour search on Mr. Muhammed’s Maitama residence in Abuja, the SSS seized $1.5 million in cash and various high-end cars, the paper reported.

Meanwhile, Magu in a statement issued by Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC’s head of Media and Publicity has distanced himself from the allegation linking him to fraud of any kind and urged the presidency to set up a “high-powered inquiry” to verify the claims of the allegation “in view of the gravity of the issues.”

He also asked the committee to investigate those who find pleasure in questioning the uprightness of others and cast doubt on the credibility of the fight against corruption.
