BOOK OF PSALMS part 4

As we explore further the use of Psalms as effective tools in the prayer life of the believer.

The book of Psalms presents an excellent manual for every believer to utilise in times of need.

In the last lesson, we spoke about the first thing that the believer must engage in
before presenting any need to God.

Praise and worship to God is vital and ought to be the first thing that a believer
must engage in.

To this end, we suggested  certain Psalms
that are invaluable for this purpose. The next thing that the believer must engage in is prayer for Mercy .

There are various Psalms in the bible that covers this prayer line.

King David presented an excellent avowal in Psalm 51 with compendious embodiment of mercy from God.

This Psalm reveals the fallibility of man and the genuine dependence of mortal beings on an infallible, great and merciful God.

This is an all time epic piece of heartfelt
prayer and supplication to God. 'Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according unto the
multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from mine inequity,
and cleanse me from my sin' Psalm51:1-2. Understand that in order to approach a Holy God, repentance is of
paramount importance.

God requires a clean heart and a
genuinely broken spirit.

There are other Psalms that equally presents effective tools for repentance such as psalms 57, 67, 86 etc. It is a good idea for the believer to memorise psalm 51 in particular, as it proves quite
effective as prayer tool.

The next lesson shall deal with the psalms that can be used effectively for victory and for deliverance purposes.

Note that the use of these Psalms are by no means exhaustive.

They are meant to complement your prayer life.

May I ask you to please pray that children of God will receive mercy from God.

Pray that they will come before God with broken and contrite hearts. '

BY HIM THEREFORE LET US
OFFER THE SACRIFICE OF PRAISE TO GOD CONTINUALLY, THAT IS, THE FRUIT OF OUR LIPS, GIVING THANKS TO HIS NAME' Heb13:15. God bless you all.
